'The Tomte, or Jul Nisse is a small 'gnome' who acts as guardian over barn animals and homes across Scandinavia. You have to be careful though, as the tomte has a temper and doesn't stand for rudeness. If you forget to give him the traditional bown of porridge on Christmas Eve, he may play tricks on you - or the poor animals!'
